Laïla Amezian invites Kabareh Nomade for two evenings of workshops dedicated to the musical art of Aïta and the figure of the Sheikhat.
Born out of a wish to collaborate between Laïla Amezian and the Kabareh Cheikhats from Casablanca, Kabareh Nomade is a project of travelling workshops combining music, poetry, theatre and dance.
Inspired by the Sheikhats and their way of life, these travelling workshops offer an opportunity to immerse yourself in the artistic world of Aïta (a popular Moroccan genre, literally "the cry"). This popular Moroccan genre tells of divine praises, expresses mutual pain, sings of love, but also denounces repression during the French colonization of Morocco. It is performed by singers and dancers who are both adored and despised for their freedom.
Kabareh Nomade is a place for expression and creativity, where participants are invited to enjoy a unique artistic experience, deconstructing gender stereotypes in music and dance and elsewhere, and reviving the art of the "dancer" and "singer" in an ancient form of popular theatre.
A collective and personal experience, Kabareh invites everyone to come as they are, with their own history, to discover their own individuality, their singularity, and to have the opportunity to let it unfold to express itself.
