When these twisted, flamboyant, and curious artists show up, they stumble upon the majestic remains of an old cabaret and its wonderful memories, a surprise they did not expect! Perhaps is it a ballroom?
This room, straight out of a space-time rift found in the eighties, still smells of hairspray and vinyl, and reminds them less of the 10,000-dollar outfits worn in precisely timed choreographies than of elbow grease and kinship.
The fact is that beneath the red velvet, long before the audiences dressed in their Sunday best, cabaret was, and still is, a popular art form. It is a place of life in the broadest sense, where workers and sex workers rub shoulders, where the bourgeoisie who come to slum it are a minority who are readily trounced.
This cabaret originates from anti-fascist Berlin, moving to anarchist squats and the dimly lit back rooms of bars where two spotlights duel while drag performers perform their lives in handmade outfits and choreographed routines rehearsed in their bathrooms.
For one evening, this cabaret invites you to dream of other possibilities by (re)incarnating them. A trans fag dyke cabaret. A Black Latino White cabaret. A diverse cabaret that will stir the soul and ass of any adult who will so desire: bienvenue, marhba bik, welcome !
